Triggertech for my 335

Post by Tangle Eye »

My gen 1 Micro 335 has basically become an upgrade platform I guess. I am the third owner of the bow having bought it online several months ago. I had just acquired an Assassin but wanted a more basic Excalibur as a backup and to play around with.

So - I had the bow like I wanted it but the trigger was still heavy and rough so I decided to go for the Triggertech. Installing it would have been fairly straightforward even though the instructions recommended the wrong size wrenches in a couple of places. :wtf: No biggie - I’m fairly well mechanically inclined. But — apparently, one of the bows past owners neglected its care or did some strange reassembly. When I was taking the scope off, the two forward screws came right out. But the back screws wouldn’t budge. :x And, of course, I eventually rounded the tiny Allen key receptacle out. At that point I went into full mechanic “I gotta get this screw out” mode. I was successful but only after way more effort than I expected. Once extracted, the screws had visible rust and what I took to be some type of thread locker (red locktite maybe) on them. :eusa-naughty: I also found that the screw that prevents the anti-dry fire from pulling out had been replaced with something obviously not intended to be there. :problem:

Oh well - sometimes you don’t know what you’ll get with a used bow. The bottom line is I got the Triggertech installed and am pleased with it; :eusa-dance: a definite improvement. But it turned out to be a lot more effort due to those two back screws on the scope mount.

glad you got it back together. one reason i dont use locktite. it becomes life long maintenance. every time you take a screw out or in you need to remove that junk so you can get proper torque and dont pull threads in the soft metals.ive been lucky to have great triggers in my Micros.i did put a Trigger Tech the MEGA 405 and when shooting from a rest the vibration through the trigger numbs my finger.i will say if anyone has an issue with a Excalibur trigger id send it in for Warranty first. i also noticed a difference with the under screws on the anti dry fire units. i think at some point they changed the screws. i have a screw that comes up a little too far into the picatinny rail. luckily the scope rings dont use that slot otherwise it be an issue.

For future reference, tap in and fully seat a magnetic tip into those 4 screws (don't be shy, beat it like it owes you money). Then use a 1/4" ratchet and bear down while turning. I set up Danny Miller and Barry at Woody's with the tools and they haven't had trouble since.

Don’t use RED Loctite! They will likely become permanently melded to the threads! I would definitely suggest using Blue Loctite!

Thanks for the info Boo. Bigbowman, you are right: no red locktite for me.

I use the Pink Loctite #222, for 1/4" and smaller screws. Works great.

I have replaced the scope mount/adf screws on my Excaliburs with TORX screws. No chance of rounding them out.

The screws is only half of the problem. Good tools go a long way. But most people dont buy quality hex keys, instead of raiding the junk drawer for ikea tools .

Look up "Wera" hex keys, problem solved.

In my case the hex key I used (Dillon Precision) was fine. It was the screw that suffered due to either rust or some kind of thread locker - hard to tell which. I like the idea of replacing them with Torx though.

Pretty sure its "wera" . kinda have a funny design, almost halfway between a hex head and a torx head is the best way to describe them

I have a good set from Cobalt, and never have an issue with good fasteners. Ball end Allen's are a must! I have had to use a cutoff wheel for the Dremmel Tool to make a straight slot, and while fastener was still hot, hit it with a straight screw driver, and that always works. I had a friend come by with a sight on his vertical that he could not get the fasteners out, Cobalt Allen's got one out, then it turned his sight whilst turning the faster with the wrench, and BAM! Problem solved. The real key sometimes is to stay cool, and think it through.
