Dr. Stirrup install question

Post by CrazyCrayon »

How to I remove the rail cap? Also, does the lock washer go over the large washer when screwing into the rail? Thank you.

I believe the stacking order for assembly would be the plastic of the DrStirrup followed by the flatwasher followed by the lockwasher and then the bolt head. The end cap was glued in as I recall and does take quite a bit of prying to get it out. Could try heating it a bit with a blow dryer to hopefully get the glue to soften a bit before prying it out.

Not sure if this is the recommended way or not, but when I installed them on my bows I had one that was unusually harder to get out than the others. I think I found a real thin screwdriver shaft and poked the cap from behind by using one of the holes for mounting the rail. Just be careful not to damage the threads in the hole that you use.

Okay, I was trying that a bit yesterday from the top holes that way I didn't tear up the paint. Didn't really move at all. Did you have to heat it up? Was it glued in?

No, didn't heat it up. I was putting a Trigger Tech, so I may have had the stock off and used an old arrow down the interior of the rail and popped it out that way. I just know one of them was tough.

I used a putty knife and was able to get between the end of the rail and cap to pry it off.

I usually take out the farthest forward screw or sling stud from the bottom of rail and then insert the short side of an Allen wrench in that hole to pop it out from the inside. It also helps if the stirrup is removed first.
