First Day Hunting

Post by Jim C »

bought a new ladder stand, a new vest-safety harness but the same old dacron strung vixen :D Loaded up my wife's new excursion and we went to the estate of a kindly old gentleman who has let me hunt his 70 private wooded acres in the nicest village in the Cincinnati area only to find some newbie had put a stand on the tree I have used for 8 straight years. Oh well, I knew where the deer come so I merely moved 60 meters down to the other side of the oak grove.. after an hour and a half, a button buck came by-within 30 meters but in some thick honeysuckle. I watched him for 15 minutes til he moved off soon to be followed by a little 6 pointer. He was in the same spot and while I had a brief chance at a shot during the half hour he grazed, it wasn't optimal. About 6.45 (sunset was at 6.48 legal was til 7.18) I was getting ready to call it a day when a large old doe came up from my right and starting grazing 5 m to the front right of my stand but due to the angle no shot and she was looking at me the whole time. the buck came back and she moved to my right and I had a nice 13M broadside angle and boom. she went crashing throug 20m of thick honeysuckles, down a grove and up a rise to a horse trail-unfortunately 300 meters straight down from where I parked. I was using a gametracker due to the thick groves. Didn't need it but it took 30 minutes to drag her up this hill. Never did see the bolt again-complete pass through with a sst wasp jackhammer-hit double lung about 3 inches forward of the liver

tomorrow I buy one of those carts :P haven't been so tired since playing a 1 and a half hour squash match at the US nationals a decade+ ago

been over at AT a bit and dealing with the koolaid drinkers who think that a phony goose massacre makes a certain NVA hero a defender of our second amendment rights.

Just remember, the Humane Society of the US (NOT THE PEOPLE WHO SHELTER UNWANTED DOGS) endorses the faux goose hunter

Congratulations !!!!!!!!!!!
Those game carts do work, too. I don't personally own one, but when I hunt the Shawnee forrest special hunt, I hunt with a group that has one. Sure helps in those hills.
