The choice is yours but leaving the string on in the off season will not hurt the bow in any way,I never take any of mine off. If the other bow you have is a Matrix why not swap strings and see if BH or length of string is different

Excalibur says the strings shorter now because some dealers and customers let the brace height get so bad the string was sunk in to the rubber bumpers. maybe they did not have a string aid. shoot the bow I have shot mine with 3" brace height through the chronograph just to see the speed deference and you do loose speed if the limbs are pre loaded to much. on the bd400 2" from were the rail meets riser is the most speed but string from rubber bumpers ends up 1". so I have backed it down some but string space is more than 3/8" and that's with dr bumpers. chronographs a good item to have that's the only way to tune the bow for the most speed. :eusa-deadhorse:

I never use the bumper space to set my brace, this cause an issue with the wrong bumpers! I always set all my Matrix bows at 1" from the back of the string to the seam of the rail riser, this is one location that will never change. But on a Matrix bow 1 3/4" is a bit much, but 12" would be harder on it than shooting where you have it now.

I would get a good quality flemish, something I think the 405 bennefits from more than any other Matrix bow, and set it at 1" to 1 1/8" from the seam at the riser and have at it! This was where I ran mine,, trouble free on 2 405's!

I also have 380 and have a spare string for it. When a i compared that one with one installed on my 405 later is about 1/2" or maybe bit more shorter. When I install my spare matrix string on 405 brace height falls to 1" where I think it should be. I would feel more comfortable shooting that string than one installed by Excalibur but not sure if that is right decision to make too. If they changed the string length they must have good reason for it and it would be nice if someone from Excalibur could come forward and explain it to all of us.

As mentioned, put on a good quality Boo string and shoot away with confidence.

I think this may be why...what a joke someone buys this bow and doesn't know about brace height, or even crossbows. I got this picture from a for-sale ad. So obviously the seller knew NOTHING about crossbows

If your happy with the BH after putting the 380 string on the 405 shoot away! If it was me I would shoot it a bunch with the string that Excalibur put on it and see if it stretches after 20/30 shots! Or call Excalibur and talk to Peter!

I haven't decided yet. Too busy renovating cottage. But most likely I will go with my spare matrix string.

I had new limbs put on my 405 last fall and you can see where they took some metal from the riser pockets.
I have a Flemish string and it came back with my string but the brace height was pretty much what yours is. I think the 405 is fast enough that if it lost any speed I couldn't tell, I did have to make a minor adjustment for elevation but it was pretty close.
Best customer service I've ever dealt with, I say get a good Flemish string and shoot it. Dan

:| EM 405 mega. I just made an endless loop 36 strand Force 10 string. I’m a lil high, 1.30”. Would you say with the lack of creep with force 10 I’m screwed. It’s on my crossbow and fits the string pockets well. Looks like ship rope on my xbow.
