Funeral for a "FRIEND"
It is with a heavy heart I must say that my best friend Jesie Jane "MY" prized Chocolate Labrador needed to be put down today!!
I delayed it as long as I could; but in the end she had to go.
The vet informed me of her cancer months ago; but I could not face it.
In the end I knew in my heart she was in severe pain and needed the help to stop it.
So I drove to the vets after feeding her favorite food, a cheeseburg and a Snickers bar .
Then I allowed the vet to inject her with the sleeping potion as I held her; telling her how much I would miss and how much I loved her.
Ofcourse I cried like a baby to where we barried her; right behind the duck blind she loved to retrieve and spend her time pleasing me.
Please lower your flags like I have to honor her memory.
Thank You ......Oneshot........

lost friend
I'm sorry to hear of your dog's passing.
She will live in your heart, and I believe also in Heaven. Just my belief. But if scoundrals such as us go there, a good dog outta be a shoein.

Your post made me feel sad.
I have a German Shepherd that's getting on in years. I have owned other dogs but never had a vet put one down for me. This time I might have to. I don't know if I could do it myself. As I get older I guess I get softer.
I was raised on a farm and the Vet would definitely NOT have been called in, even for a family pet. It's a good thing some things change.

Oh man.......... I have to wipe the tears out of my eyes on this one..
It brought back memories of the animals that I loved so much and are now gone...
You have my sincerest condolences. It is something that we all have to face one day with "friends"... Just try and remember the good times..

Sorry to hear about your Pup
I had a pup named Tuko who had a stroke and was put down!
Very sad time
Get another Pup to help you feel better!

Sorry for your loss
I myself cry like a baby when I have an old dog put down. There is nothing I can do about it to control it. The emotion just erupts out of me. Even though it is tough emotionally to have a dog put down, I am always glad I am there with them when they go. My grandmother passed away 2 summers ago. She was in a rest home. She went quickly before I could get there. I wish I could have held her hand as she passed. If possible focus on all the good times and memmories. Have a good one.
I've got three of the little freaks running around here...not looking forward to the day when I have to do what you did...here's a poem for you that I find fitting:
“The Power of the Dog”
Rudyard Kipling
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THERE is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.
Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie—
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.
When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet’s unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find—it’s your own affair—
But . . . you’ve given your heart to a dog to tear.
When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!).
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone—wherever it goes—for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear.
We’ve sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent.
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we’ve kept ’em, the more do we grieve.
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-time loan is as bad as a long—
So why in—Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?
