Question - Deer rut

Post by schnarrfuss »

Need some info from all you guy's huntin' in s.w. Ontario. Is anyone seeing any signs of the "rut" being on right now? Is anyone seeing any bucks chasing doe's? I'm not seeing much of anything right now. Maybe things will heat up tonight, suppose to go down to 0 tonight. Any comments will help. Thanx and good huntin'.

Have been seeing rubs for a few weeks now but very little scrapes until about 3-4 days ago they started appearing on the property!

Have you seen any scrapes yet? Usualy the rut will comence 10 days after the primary scrapes. Then the doe's will kick out the last year yearlings bucks and bunch up. But they will still hold to the fawns. Your smaller year and a half old bucks will hang together but spread apart if they sence doe's in the area. One general rule of thum is when you do see a buck coming and he is small, just wait the larger bucks will usualy follow as much as 20 to 45 min's behind. Many times I have seen 5 or 6 bucks passing under me in pecking order and the big guy or guys will hold back.
