My friend slugged a large 400 lb + hog near Stratford Ont during the Nov. 2017 Controlled Shotgun Hunt.
Numerous wild hogs and piglets have been seen in the area.

I feel sorry for anyone that has them! It appears there have been quite a few sighted in Ontario, some close to home

Interesting map.
Some close to my cottage. Without photos posted I wouldn't believe.
Looks like I am wasting money buying pork.
How come MNR never mentioned this in Ontario Hunting Regulations? Or I missed it?

Good news! I travel hundreds of miles to hunt hogs. If I can hunt them here that is a bonus! :)

I know it's literally the worst thing that could come to many (like mine) agricultural communities, but I must admit I'd love to be able to hunt them here.

I'd like to not have to drive so far to wack them too but I'd freak out if I woke up to this!

Or ran into this while golfing.

I think MNR should do better job at making public (especially hunters) aware of this issue, clarify and regulate if it needs to be regulated. Allow night hunting perhaps?
Let's say I am at the cottage in the middle of August and bunch of piggies comes and starts digging my lawn: can I kill it? How many? Middle of the night? Allowed methods?
I ASSUME they would be happy if I do it, but don't want to hunt anything based on assumption. Because it could turn out to be an expensive assumption.

Laws will vary by jurisdiction.

Those piggies SHOULDN'T be defined as "wildlife", because they aren't-- any more than if an African lion were prowling your back yard. Still, your provincial law may be worded differently, so they might get included as wildlife. There again, all hunting after sundown, or with the aid of lights, might be illegal, no matter the subject of your hunting.

That prohibition USUALLY applies only to wildlife, however. So it depends on what is "wildlife".

If a farmer wants to shoot and butcher his steer after dark and with the benefit of artificial lighting, that shouldn't be any business of the state. But, who knows.....
"Gun Control Laws"--trying to nag criminals into submission.
