My 165 was cocked by hand and did not come with a rope cocker groove. It surely wasn't a big deal then unless you had some skin sliced off between the string and trigger unit. :eusa-hand: Several months after buying the bow, Excalibur came up with the rope cocker.

Can anyone cock the (Equinox) by hand.

Dave
I have hand cocked the highest poundage long limb excalibur crossbows. I wouldn't want to do a lot of practice with one hand cocking, but for hunting purposes, I could handle it.

I have hand cocked a 355, but it was "not fun" and a struggle. But in a pinch while out hunting if I had to I could do it.

most people when they hand cock a crossbow will not have the string even as one arm is stronger then the other . Hence shot going way to the right or left doesn't take much of the string being off to screw up the shot .
If a person hand cocks the bow with the proper technique, the string will be cocked even. You are supposed to grab the string with both hands, with your thumb up against the rail (just like the rope cocker fingers do). As you pull up with the string, your thumbs keep it even.

I cocked my Exomax by hand once when I was in a hurry to reload and didn't have the cocking rope handy. It was pretty easy but I think I had some adrenaline pumping. I had a Barnett Wildcat when I was a kid that I used to cock by putting the butt against my chest and pulling back by hand. It was only 100 pounds though.
