Just wondering
As I was going to my blind this afternoon I notice the snow was black . So I picked up a handful to check it out and it looked like little bugs , sure enough that's what they where . has any one ever seen such a thing and if so what do you think they are? there were millions of them.

Re: Just wondering
I have seen what you are discribing many times .......
If you look closely, if it is the same, it will look like they are jumping for movement. I was told that they were "snow fleas", not sure if that is accurate or not.

Re: Just wondering
I checked them out and they said they are not snow flees they come out of the soil on a mild day in winter and that is the only time you can see them they are always present but you can't see them when there is no snow. google snow bugs and you will see.

Re: Just wondering
These are very common in Michigan about the size of ground black pepper a square foot of snow could have a thousand of them on it , see them at the bases of trees most often.
Also every firearm season begins Nov 15th the start of snow and ice season I see postage stamp size beige moths fluttering slowly around, I have seen on several occasions song birds swoop in and eat them right out of the air.
All other insects are long gone but these moths and the snow fleas.
