Turkeys memory

Post by longbow joe »

When l called in the gobbler for my brother Saturday morning we had previously cleared a large tree that had fallen on top of this large plateau that we hunt.
The tree was so big that we basically cut 15 feet of the middle out simply to let the turkeys pass as normal as possible it was a good move because that's exactly how they came.
I learned early on how weird Turkeys are with obstacles in their way.
Anyway not one but 7 gobblers came in in a row thru the cut we made and stopped they basically stopped and we made the decision for him to shoot the first one with the shotgun in which he did.
Now all the other 6 Turkeys whiteness the execution
Of their buddy .
I was wondering lf it will affect them remembering the incident and avoiding the area
I hunted it yesterday and nothing l had to move on. Now l have one more Turkey tag and wonder if l should let the spot cool off...and how long ..but there's always a chance of a new dummy moving in.
This is one of the reasons l love the crossbow ....no noise and drama .l was wondering any of your Turkey experiences with the little brain inside that little noggin of theirs? And about a Turkeys memory?

Last season I killed my limit of 3 turkeys by shooting one every 4th day off the same food plot. I had a couple come in in between the kills but not close enough to shoot. So I would say they do not have real long memories.

If you whack a turkey, the others will scatter, then come back and beat on their deceased buddy. I don't think they will care.
