Excalibur TrailBlazers

Post by janesy »

Big thanks to the good folks at EastHill's for letting me harrass them until these head came in yesterday. These were in my top 3 from the ATA, so I've been waiting to get my hands on them!

Hoping to put them through paper with both Micro370 and Assassin420 this weekend to see how well they stay closed. Since they were tested extensively with the 440, I think we have nothing to worry about.

Does not need bands. I'm sure the 420 will let us no quick. But I suspect they will stay closed

They are nearly identical to the Excalibur X-act, but longer and 2" cut.

Those are Innerlocs, like all the Excalibur heads. They should be awesome.

I have been pretty vocal about these heads, between them and two new Swat models I was so hopeful that these would be available before spring bear. So I was genuinely hoping that they would work as good as their designers said they did. And thankfully they were not wrong. I had an opportunity tonight to put them through paper into a Reinhardt at 20yards. I decided to take one shot with my micro370, that would have been leaving at approximately 350fps. Then clean the head, install new filaments and then use the same head on arrow moving around 390 estimated, from an Assassin420. Both arrows and bows are in hunting trim, as they would be carried.
That way the head would be shot once before the 420 had its way with it  if it was gonna open, that would be when it would open

The 370 was accurate and uneventful, worked perfectly. As you can see, the head stayed close and did NOT deploy on contact, notice the crushed filament behind the blade. All good there. The first pics are the 370.

The A420 on the other hand, owned these heads, not only did the head stay close and not deploy, it completely passed through my 14" Reinhardt. Note the pic showing the perfectly sliced foam on exit. Worked as it should.
I believe it when they said they tested it with a 440, I'm confident they would stay closed.

End results, the blades are pretty dull after two hard hits in the Reinhardt, but that's to be expected. They are completely straight, intact, free of wobble and ready to go again. Not something I can say for other brands I've hit this target with this year.

Here's the heads. The filament is a cool design, not particularly fun if you target shoot with broadheads, but a smart design none the less. It's easy to change, only takes 30 seconds.

Good review, do the clips that hold the blades closed stay stiff, or are they affected like Spitfires?

They are the same as the X-act head Dan, they use a little spring clip that also holds the blade in place. The spring puts pressure on the blade when closed and as the blade is opened on impact it over powers the spring clip to rotate open.

ThanksJanesy l tried to get em for Turkey but no good .lm not surprised about the accuracy at all the xact is just dead on for me in all my bows.
I think I'm gonna shoot the magnus black hornet in the vixen 2 this year and also try the trailblazer in my others l like the wide cut for Turkey .
Honestly out of the 8 doe and buck killed with the smaller xact cut all were dead within 75 yards max . They are gonna be awesomely a little better.
Even with the vixen l got full penetration with the xact.
They probably have the sharpest tip of any expandable head l have including the spitfires. They have a wider cut than my rothaar snuffer that l used in my longbows and that's wide!
Vixen 2, metal ibex,Phoenix, sapphire, matrix 330 ,matrix 355 ,vortex and baby grand piano y25 relayer.
Trigger tecs, leupold crossbones and nikon bolts.
Zombie slayers and mostly swat broadheads.
