THUNDERHEADS

Post by CT.HNTR »

I have a question regarding 100 grain Thunderhead Broadheads. I have never understood what the purpose of the 'O' ring is but when I tighten the broadhead down onto the bolt the O-ring really compresses and squeeze's out beyond the diameter of the bolt.

is this normal or is this a concern?

They are designed for three things in my opinion, and I have used them for years. The O-Rings are used to keep the blades in place after assembly before you screw them into the inserts, they then offer a little cushion between the ferrel and arrow insert. also, the O-Ring is supposed to help keep the head tight! The washer is supposed to be rotated to "tune" the head if needed. Make the FOC as high as possible using those heads, I found that the faster the bow, the more erratic the accuracy was, so I suggest you shoot in a mild cross wind before hunting with them so you know what to expect. The heads are very sharp, and do a job on whitetails. Blood trails are insane as well.

Good Luck!

xcaliber,

I am checking out the 85 grain Thunderheads as they have a nice short profile which looks to be very aerodynamic. I am thinking with a 110 grain front insert they may fly real nice. Have you ever tried this combination?

No, I like 100 grain, and 125, but that will work. Your bow is pretty fast, so I would take a few shots with them and adjust your scope to the heads before hunting with them.

xcaliber,

I have a package of the 100's that I will test this weekend. When assembling them there is the main ring that goes on after you load the blades and then there is the 'O' ring. After the 'O' ring there is a nother very thin ring with a large bevel on it which seems optional. Do you know what this beveled thin ring is for and do you use it?

I think one ring goes on each side of the O-Ring if memory serves me right.
