Doe down for opening day of archery season

Post by Hester0305 »

I had 3 does come in this morning around 8:30 and 2 of them went straight to my mineral block, I shot the biggest one while it was broadside licking my salt block at 26 yards with my Stryker Katana 360 and a Zombie Slayer tipped with a NAP FOC 170 gr. broadhead. The big doe made it about 100 yards before I heard her crash. I was shocked when I got to her and noticed that I had hit her in the upper part of the lung with an exit at the front of her guts, she was perfectly broadside with both of her front legs together when I took aim at her heart. I always aim low with a bow or crossbow and I'm glad I did the same thing again. My arrow was about 10 yards pass where the deer was standing and the lighted nock was just a shining. I'm blessed to be able to take a deer to help feed our family once again this year.
I'm going back this afternoon to try and add another one to the freezer while my wife will be hunting at the house trying to put one of the bucks down that we have pictures of. Here's a link to my picture
Good luck everyone

Glad to hear you had some success. Me and my youngest were waiting on the turkeys this morning when a doe and to fawns came to eat under the apple trees. We sat there and watched them eat for a half hour. It was a good way to get us excited for our October archery deer season. Found out yesterday all 5 family members won Any-deer permits in the lottery. It should be a very exciting season for us. We are heading back out now for an afternoon sit.
Take care,
Hatchet

Congrats on a fine doe! I’ve noticed that the wide 2 blade heads deflect when hitting ribs.

I've killed a lot of deer with the FOC and most of the time it will punch straight thru making huge holes on the other side. I believe she was trying to duck and get out of the way of the arrow as it hit her.

Enjoy some fresh loin. I can see her starting to duck and rotate, I believe you are correct.
