Mosquitoes

Post by Robinsons Rebel »

With all these strorms and hurricanes that have been passing through the area, I've been worried about all the acorns being blown out of the trees down here. Seems now I might have to worry about another problem soon. Mosquitoes. Seen a bunch more flying around the past few days. Hoping a good cold spell will hit before the season starts but I won't hold my breath. I think they will be waiting on me to enter the woods. Pretty bad that you can hear the whole woods buzzing when you're sitting in your truck. Might have to run two Thermacells! Wonder if 15 million mosquitoes can deflect your arrow? :wtf: :wtf: :eh: :eh:

This is one reason why l dont get too excited about the season until about mid October.
I see you live south and l assume they are around a lot longer. I use permethrin but it doesn't seem to scare the mosquitos away . But it will kill them .
Never really needed the thermocell here just mesh gloves and a facemask soaked with permethrin is sufficient to keep them at bay. When we had a hurricane one year they were awful until end of October

I am in GA so we have lots of mosquitoes without a doubt, I have hunted almost every day since the season opened on Sept 12 and have yet to be bit by one. No thermacells in usage for me at all. I just treat my clothes, gloves and hat with permethrin and go hunting. They will swarm around me and the occasional one will light on my clothes but they leave as soon as they do to go die. They do not like the permethrine at all.

We have had a couple frosts here already and that did a number on the bug population. I am still itching from being devoured by black flies and mosquitoes during our spring turkey season.
Take care

Permethrin on the clothes will do the trick for several weeks with just one application. I've used it to repel chiggers also in the summer while walking in the woods.

I went out Thursday to check cameras one last time before opening weekend. As I was walking into one of the areas where one of my stands is located, I heard what sounded like the distant beat of helicopters, much to my surprise it was a flock of "skeeters" flying in formation like a gaggle of Apaches going on a mission!!! :wtf:
Much to my chagrin, I soon realized I was the intended target!!! Barely escaped with my life!!! Had to go home and consume an adult beverage to calm my shattered nerves!!!
