Twilight DLX: is this normal?

Post by Boomer81 »

So i finally tracked down a new scope for my crossbow and got a Twilight DLX from Excalibur.

While everything seems fine with it (it sat in the mailbox for hours in -10 and then i brought it inside and didnt notice any condensation inside). The glass looks clear and the reticles light up properly. My issue is with the edges of the glass when seen from inside. It is hard to explain and i cant for the life of me get a picture that shows the issue.

I have edited a pic i found online that hopefully explains what i am talking about.

There is a small ring inside the scope that looks like where the glass sits against the tube, it has a halo effect when the reticle is illuminated. Thats not an issue for me but what i noticed is that it is not uniform. The majority of the halo is solid and crisp and uniform but on one side it looks frosted/cracked/fractured. Not much but it is clearly not the same as the rest of the ring.

Has anyone seen this before? In my mind it seems like this is some kind of defect but i am wondering if it is something that may lead to fogging or water inside the tube down the road?

Managed to finally get a pic.

Thanks!

Update:

So i got a chance to have it outside again sighting in during the cold and it was even more noticeable. So i bit the bullet and sent it in. They replaced it with the new Overwatch scope. It came with rings and i will be putting it on my soon to arrive Mag340! I can't wait to set it up.

My only concern is the light gathering difference between the twilight dlx and the overwatch since the overwatch has no bell at the front.

Okay perfect! I guess the larger tube makes up for the lack of objective bell?
