I'm with Bill on this one. If you want it dead, cut off its head!

I would suggest if you are not going for a headshot/decapitation style Broadhead, that you go for a Broadhead that does it's best to dump as much energy as possible into the bird. Theoretically speaking, that means stays in, but not entirely necessary. A Turkeys heart and or lungs are such small moving targets you want to cause as much trauma in there to stop it from running away.
SWAT has recently released a new head the Vector-CP Turkey that has blades that open to 90°. I would think this would be good to play with.
One thing to mention is it's very important to shoot them head on or Texas heart style, or else there isn't much meat left unless you like it ground.

Last turkey I shot with a bow cost me 2 broadheads, a bigjohn arrow and a luminock. Headshot is definitely the cheaper way to go.

I've had both happen. Pass through most of the time. I put a grasshopper on my Muzzy. It helps in finding your bolt.

Haven`t done the head shot yet but my broadheads I blunted the front end and made sure each one weighed the same .
On a side note turkeys leave a crappy blood trail when they fly .

Even my slow 255fps vixen will shoot a spit max/ superfreak etc. Clean thru a turkey so it's not an issue..
This year l shot a fall turkey clean thru using my new favorite the swat A-4 dropped him dead.didnt go 10.
No bad feelings about the head choppers l never saw the need for them l have killed dozens of turkeys with bow and crossbow only lost one with the wide cut expandables.
The longer bolt to clear the stirrup and the extra tuning seem unnecessary to me.
Turkey hunting shots should be close absolutely but l have no problem with gilt or morals shooting a decoy shy turkey at 30 + yards if its leaving or strait on.
You can't shoot a head chopper that far with accuracy.
To date l have killed 5 coyotes turkey hunting that came in to a decoy setup.
If you shoot a head chopper at a coyote it just slams them and they run away... believe me done it.
And there's not much time to exchange a bolt for another.
With a instrument as accurate as an excalibur crossbow it's really not that hard to hit a turkey In the engine room that's part of the fun.
You have to make the decision there is no wrong way
To kill one its all fun.chopper or wide cut.

Thanks for the feed back . I am thinking of using muzzy trocar hbx now which grain 100 or 125. I am leaning toward 125 as they fly a lot better,

Good luck they seem like they have a nice big cut.
The only thing l think is most important is the wide cut weather it be a two blade ,three or four a broadhead like a boltcutter or standard muzzy is just not gonna put one down fast enough unless it's just perfect that extra cut does wonders on a turkey.
I killed a couple with the xact a few year back but it's just not big enough for me l wouldn't hesitate to use the trailblazer for turkey l think it's also a good choice.
I won't buy the new model spitfire maxx they are just too chinsy in quality anymore but they have been very good to me killing turkey over the years.
