Are fiberglass bolts safe for matrix/micro bows?

Post by vpsaline »

Are chinese fiberglass bolts safe for matrix/micro power level bows? I'm told 16 inch weights 281gr...

Looking for some cheap disposable bolts for grouse, yotes and such.

Has anyone actually got experience with similar bolts?

I've never shot them but it seems to me that they'd have to be much heavier to have the same strength and spine value.

Do you frequently destroy, and or lose the arrows? I would try to find a sure way to retrieve my arrows, and the save a bit and use the .003" factory Zombie slayers, or something. Bad things happen when arrows break on shot!

I feel like you should be able to get "stock" Easton quills for pretty cheep on the 2nd hand market. They don't have very much value

It seems like every time I shoot a pig my arrow is a casualty. So years ago I started using old Firebolt arrows cut down for whatever length on pigs and saved my better arrows for other things. Pigs can’t tell any difference snd I’m sure you can find some used Girebolts somewhere

I'm aware there's other options. I'm curious if board members have experience with fiberglass bolts!? Thanks

You are looking for reassurance on a product that is not precisely identified. Nobody can give you a knowledgeable answer, because nobody knows exactly what you are referencing.

The only safe answer is that there are some very much inferior manufacturers out there. Lots of them are in China. There are better materials to use for manufacturing arrows.

An arrow that fails when it is fired is a bad scene.

You are more at risk if you use unbranded product than one that has a reputation for quality. You increase risk by going to a material that is known to be less desirable. Maybe the best answer is why take the risk when there are too many unknowns?

I can not shed any light on your question as I have not used any fiberglass bolts.
However in my hunting time afield I have come to the conclusion that high power cross bows are not suited for small game ,to much power , to many lost bolts , damaged bolts , damaged heads make it not worth while.
If I see a coyote my regular hunting bolt on its way I consider it worth the risk , but small game get a pass from me with my cross bow I have better tools to harvest small game.

Are most bolts approx. The same as 2219 aluminum.

They should be easy to find anywhere and cut to length , fletch , ad inserts .

Should be great for all around hunting.
