Crossbows at ranges

Post by mchurch »

I've been a member at a combo shotgun/archery range for around 10 years. Recently they banned the use of crossbows out there. No specific incident happened that I am aware of. Anyone else seeing this kind of stuff happening?

I know of a couple indoor archery ranges closed to crossbow users because some Xbow idiots decided to use broadheads and ruined the field point only targets in the process.

Idiots could not read the large "FIELD POINT ONLY "

I shoot on private 5min from home. The farmer is a crossbow hunter so I'm safe.... lol

The sportsman club I just joined does not allow crossbows on their 3D course (though I got a special exception to use it though because of my disability and offered to use my slowed down micro/matrix hybrid configuration). On their field range and indoor range, they allow crossbows as long as you bring your own target, or set out the one crossbow approved target they have there.

Just like a lot of other things going on in the world of archery and gun hunting.

It only takes a few "idiots" to ruin it for everyone else.

Sorry to hear its also turned up in archery, target ranges.

Glad to see some establishments enforce a stricter set of rules for crossbow target shooting, so it can continue.

Lots of idiots around. We rebuild some butt stops last fall and found broadheads inside them. We have big signs hanging with no broadheads. People are to cheap to bring their own target to lineup their own broadheads. But we do need idiots in this world, or how would we know we are not all idiots? :)

I use a custom 115lb cut down vixen at my local range. Easy to get arrows out of 3D animals. People I shoot with always say "Wow look at that arch." :) I change out to strait riser with limbs and a second matching Hawke scope and all lined up for 90lbs indoors. Super easy to change back and forth and always be lined up. :) 115lbs line up out to 100 yards on the tens. 90lb lined up on the fives out to 60 yards. CHEERS!

I am happy to say that my local club allows crossbows on the target range and the 3D ranges we have two ranges for 3D the only condition is no broadheads allowed on all club targets. I use my own broadhead target at the range when I want to shoot broadheads it is always in my truck.
Crossbows are also allowed on club sanctioned 3D tournaments at the club.

I'm starting to think this has something to do with liability concerns living in California
