They are thick in mifflin county at our cabin. Literally sounds like walking on cereal at the base of trees in the yard (the empty shells are literally 2-3 deep)

About an hour ago I thought to myself that if it wouldn't hurt our acorn or raspberry crop, I'd love a couple nights of frost right now to shut these things up. I'm about 150 miles southwest of you and we have plenty of them. My yard looks like the ground after the battle at Gettysburg with all of the holes in it. I'm hoping they get it over with and this racket doesn't stretch into the fall. But I guess everything has a bright side. I should be able to slip into my stand undetected with this noise. Of course I'll never be able to hear a deer coming until it gets into bow range.

Nothing here North of you in Carbon County Pa., I thought we would have an abundance of them, looks like maybe not.

My son sent me a video of he and his friends barbecuing them and eating them with garlic butter. Said they were delicious.

Locust year in central PA will NOT be until 2025

I got into this in 2004 when people around here said it was locust year. It was NOT.

Locust years here were 1957, 1974, 1991, 2008, and the next time will be 2025

Locusts a come in different years in different areas.

No locusts up here in Wisconsin, but I'd bet they would be good bait for fishing!

Decent article and map: https://earthsky.org/earth/17-year-cicadas-broodx-2021/

This year's batch are Brood X so the pink/magenta dots should be where they are expected to show up.
