Matrix bulldog 380

Post by Bansheeslayer »

Can anyone tell me when this bow was produced and when it was discontinued? I may have a chance to buy a new one old stock and wonder what a fair price would be.. it has been setting out on display in the sun and is faded a bit and I bet it needs a new string.
Thanks in advance

I've seen prices all over the place lately. I've seen some for about $600 to as high as $1000. Mostly it depends on the number of "extras" with the bow. The Matrix BD380 is one heck of a bow. My favorite in the Matrix line. I don't know if that model is still in production or not. According to the homepage of Excalibur, it is not.
However, the bow carries a Lifetime Warranty. It's as tough as a tank, and can and will kill any game animal hunted in North America and 7/8ths of those found in Africa!!!

Good to see you here Blake. The BD380 came out in 2017, but I'm not sure when it was discontinued since Excal removed their past models page. So that NOS could be as old as 2017. I love the bronze rail and riser on the BD380's, it matches your 308 Short as well.

The fast BD's really don't feel a lot wider than the micro's when cocked back, but being a shorter guy I do notice the longer LOP and overall length compared to my 308 Short. And I definitely appreciate the flatter trajectory from the BD.

Or you could do as I did and put a Vixen 2 stock on a Regular Matrix 380 to get the shorter LOP, shave some weight and make it even more balanced..
I also did the same thing with a 405. I simply despise Thumbhole stocks. They weigh more, and require too much movement to turn off the safety.
That was always my biggest beef with Tenpoints...load safety, heavy Thumbhole stocks, and having to take hand off to manipulate the safety...

Not sure about that. My BD380 has been in the shape of a hotrod Micro shooting almost the same speeds as the parent matrix BD380 for coming up on 4 seasons now without issue.

I really wish Excalibur would bring a few of the older bows back as I thought they were great bows and very dependable. The Matrix 355, Matrix 380, Bullldog 380 and the Bulldog 400 are great bows and for the life of me I just don't understand why they were discontinued.

Times 2!

I went with a Hawke scope right out of the gate, and never looked back.
Now just put another Hawke on her as they increased the objective size, and lit up the chevrons out to 100.
LOVE my Matrix 380 alright!

Cheers,
Nog

Sure, the BD380 is the best to make a micro out of because all you have to do is shorten the rail, and buy micro limbs. The finish on the BD380 is finished right up under the stock, so you don't need to refinish anything at all. Once you sell you matrix limbs, your only cost is that of the machining.

The BD330 is also finished completely, and it has the Stryker stock, so it's cool too. But back when I did that there were no MOBC limbs available, aside from brand new, which simply adds to the cost.

In contrast, the BD400 is often the easiest to find for cheap as a diner, But the camo finish is not on the entire rail, so you have to refinish.

This bow started as a BD380, but it got hybrid and eventually cerakote as well. It's still around and going strong . Marcel also made one out if a BD380 and added to the rail length if I recall correctly.
