Stringing aid slipping

Post by flatone »

I went to adjust my string tonight and when I start to pull back on the stringing aid, the rope slips in the self cinch knot . I have never had this happen before…. Any idea why this is happening all the sudden? Would waxing that rope help?

Maybe a change in humidity? I've had this happen a few times with one of the previous versions of the stringing aid that had a string that was a bit slick. I just set the stringing aid to just long enough to get over the limb tips, then tied a knot in the string after the cinch knot. That creates a positive stop for it to slip up against.

This works fine if you only have one bow width. If you have different widths, the tied knot can get a little tight to remove.

I have had that happen but mine did it after I waxed the rope.

If you're using the OE stringing aid, you'll get some slipping because there are only 3 holes for the rope. When Danny and I designed ours, we made them with 4 holes. Try sticking the tag end under the loop on the opposite side or buy one from Danny Miller assuming you are in the US.

My factory string aid does this as well, so I have to tie one additional knot in it to not slip through. But then that knot cinches tight so it makes it a pain to adjust later. Which is why I currently have one of Danny's on the way.
