ANYBODY ON THE RIGHT COAST OF US EXPERIENCING CWD?

Post by amythntr »

....I pose the query since two dead doe were found very close to "Dida's Hunting Club" Property in Roscoe...We also spoke to a biologist and was told that the deer are being tested for CWD....if it is found that these deer did in fact have CWD (COVID with Delta V) that the DEC basically quadrants off an area and bring their people in to kill off as many of the deer as possible.....However, with hunting season opening in less than a week they will most likely let the hunters have unlimited tags to shoot down sick deer.....

....oh well, I guess it is part of the downside of owning property....There is always hunting back in The People's Republic of New Jersey (I did buy my license in January anyway.)....Hopefully the problem will be resolved shortly....there is only 1149 days till full retirement! :( :eusa-dance:

wish you luck that the test are negative.
after cwd was found in a couple of michigan's southern counties the state has tried to decimate the deer herd and they have done a good job of doing it in some areas of the northern counties and they come up with new schemes every year to try getting more wiped out. its terrible hunting now in some areas. the "blanket approach" they use is wrong  but its the cheapest for the state so they seem to feel its best

CWD has nothing to do with Covid 19 and or the Delta variant.
CWD is a disease found in some deer, elk and moose populations. CWD damages portions of the brain and typically causes progressive loss of body condition, behavioral changes, excessive salivation and death.

Truth stranger than fiction file:

From the PA game commission site:

There is currently no evidence to indicate that deer can spread the virus to humans.
Recent research conducted by the United States Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has indicated that wild white-tailed deer in Pennsylvania were exposed to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 in humans. There were no signs of clinical illness in any of the surveyed deer populations and there is currently no evidence to indicate that deer can spread the virus to humans. These findings are not surprising due to white-tailed deer's close proximity to human populations experiencing widespread SARS-CoV-2 infections and prior research that demonstrated that white-tailed deer were susceptible to the virus. Additional research is in progress.

Round these parts everyone has Constant Whining Disorder. Cant blame em. 90°+ with 90% humidity will do that to ya.
No worries though Mother Nature has a cure coming very soon. Crisp fall weather and the smell of decaying leaves is sounding pretty good right now. This brief period of fall weather will surely be followed up by complaints of how COLD it is.
Take care

CWD has been detected in counties adjacent to the two counties I hunt in Virginia and West Virginia. Overall, I haven't seen any impact on the deer herd and neither state wildlife division has changed their harvest strategies or seasons. They have enacted numerous Covid-like restrictions that, like the mask mandates when folks are rocking their chinstraps, are likely doing little to stop the spread and only serve as a nuisance to hunters.

Examples:
While I believe hunting over bait is illegal on public (and maybe some or all private) lands around here, now any feeding/minerals for deer is prohibited. The idea is they don't want deer to congregate. I'm thinking the cornfield across the highway is just a ticket waiting to happen.

Legal movement of carcasses becomes extremely difficult. Basically, the head and spine of any harvest is not to leave the containment area. In many cases, that means it isn't supposed to leave the county of kill. If you don't live in the county you hunt in, I'm guessing they think your going to tag the deer, then bone it out, bury the bones 2ft deep, then transport only the meat home. That sounds like a lot of fun to stay legal.

Good luck with it turning out to be a negative test. But as I've seen, once CWD even gets close they're apt to take questionable Covid-like responses.

IMO, just ignore the spread of CWD and let it run its course. If 90% of the deer in an area get CWD and die off, that's just natures way of fixing its issues. I'd rather nature address it that have the Gov't pay staff to wipe out the herd. I believe we as humans think we have a lot more control of some things in nature than we really do.
