Ramcat Savage Broadhead

Post by tomcat »

Anyone know if these will stay closed out of a 380/405?? Currently using the regular Ramcats, but like the idea of closed blades for my youngest(now 15) and hunting in his own stand 500 yards away. Supposedly they have 3 grooves for the O-ring, an actual heavy O-ring not rubber band)and the furthest forward is supposed to be for High Speed Crossbows...
Any feedback/opinions welcome..

Don't know, but I really like SWAT A-4 Mini heads, they do a great job on deer!
Good luck with the youngest, it's fun watching them learn.

I don't know either but when a blade leans out like they do, I am suspicious. If you get some, add another band.
I'm with Dan, Swats are the broadhead of the discriminating hunter. They fly perfectly, they have 4 blades and they kill. I killed 2 deer last year and the one went 20 yards and the 10 point went 60 yards max.

Not really interested in $50 broadheads with exposed blades for the kid.. Normally like "over the top" Rocket Steelheads, but I know they will not stay closed in flight out of a 405..been there done that...

The "over the top" SWAT Vector 4 blade does not open at speeds over 400 fps. I've tested them at 460 + fps without premature deployment.

Have you tested them with the heavier poundage Excal's or just compound crossbows?

Both, I have some local hunters using the SWAT Vector out of Excal 380's and 405's and I have used them out of my faster Scorpyds.
Scott from SWAT Broadheads sent me test packs to test at high speeds I might add.

I’m going to try the Hybrid in the fixed position, and they have the option to use as a mechanical as well, Norm, have you tried them at all?

Only used and tested the XMAG, VECTOR, MOAB, and the steel Hybrid thus far. The Hybrid I suggest shooting fixed as you are Dan.

The MOAB blades are .036 just like the XMAG however the MOAB has slightly less angle producing 1/16" less cut in either direction which is insignificant but improves penetration for slightly slower X Bows.

EDIT : Also the MOAB features setting to allow the upper blades to pivot, the X Mag does not pivot.

Both are identical regarding flight characteristics.

I was a witness to both.

I'm looking forward to handling the Juggernaut but frankly the MOAB has proven to check all the boxes. Down side is they do have exposed blades

I tested the excal/interlock trailblazer extensively last year and after much abuse, they would not open when fired from an Assassin420. I even fired them from that bow to make them open and they didn't.

Now, they turned out to not be the most durable head, but they dropped a buck for me last fall, down in sight. I feel they are a fast bow head for sure, you may want to have a look at them. Their massive cut is forgiving to say the least
