A video was posted recently of a hog hunt where the hunter completely missed his 2 first shots on his hog and then the 3rd shot on the hog hits it's mark but it's apparent that the head is opening up in mid-flight! The arrow acts EXTREMELY squirly, in this screen capture you can see the large two blades opened and arrow skewed towards chest cavity but ultimately the arrow lands in the neck after several swirling redirections caused by the blades. The flight characteristics of an arrow with the deployed blades is completely random. The hunter was lucky to bag this animal. I find the video very concerning. I personally don't use any rage products nore do I plan too.
Yep he had apparently sprung one of the petals on the collar holding the blades in place which caused it to plane off course in flight. That can happen when you push them into a quiver to hard or if you line up the blades with the slits instead of centering the blades between the slits. I always put a dental band on mine as cheap insurance and have never had one open in flight when doing so.

Good point. I do have some dental bands. Probably prudent to use them on ALL mechanicals.
The only way to have an opperater errer on a traditional head is to not screw it on.
I know mechanical heads kill very well when everything goes correct but one thing I have learned is if something can go wrong eventually it usually does.
It's heavy fixed heads for me on squared arrows, very consistent accuracy.
I’ve tested them as well as Hypodermics shooting through paper with various Excalibur’s and shock collars. The Red collars do keep them closed in flight even out of my 405 but I’ve had several make it through the targets still encapsulated in the shock collar. IMHO they are too questionable to use..i’ve Stabbed the. Through cardboard box and they don’t deploy.
With the Black collars they opened on a micro 315, 380 & 405, yet stayed closed with an Exomax, Exocet, Offspring, Buckmaster,Vixen. In fact They fly close enough to my FP’s at 50yds I won’t need more than a click or two. They do penetrate less than all of the other heads I shoot, but that’s the price you pay for a 2” cut. They do fly very close to FP’s when they stay closed on the lower poundage bows..
