Norms Custom Arrow builds

Post by Normous »

My interest building arrows started back in 1991 with a personal tutorial from our own Bill Troubridge and since then I mostly preferred to use my own homemade hunting arrows. One can say I've learned a thing or two about constructing a quality arrow. Many thanks to some of the arrow mentors who generously their knowledge to me over the years. Thank you!

Recently delivered , my lips curled upward when my Custom Ethics inserts arrive after a 2.5 week wait. Ethics followed through rather quickly after giving a 3 week shipping quote.

US made and Veteran owned, these static inserts exceeded my uniformity expectations with a 20 piece sample coming in at .02 grain uniformity.
Two Stainless Steel versions are available in .300 ID used for Black Eagle Zombies and Executioners.
- 92 and 110 gr and
- 125, 150, 175 and 200 grain version. One can see the various cutoff points to customize FOC.

Also shown is the Black Eagle Carnivore (300) 32" shaft at .296" OD which slides perfectly inside a the Zombie or BEE shaft. A 2 part flexible epoxy from the Aerospace Industry handles adhesion. I plan on using a 4" to 7" cut length carbon inner tube ( inner tube length depends on total arrow length) to settle arrow oscillation sooner and additionally strengthen the front section of the arrow.

Let the double carbon wall construction begin now that I have more time in retirement. Building these arrows require some extra detailing steps which I am looking forward to.

A good Arrowsmith can trust his equipment perfectly designed to assemble quality matched arrows for discriminating customers in Canada.

1) Custom built Ram spine tester with numerous upgrades.
2) Aerovane Fletching Jig by Firenock, the best period. Fletching indexed perfectly at 0, 120 and 240 Degrees.

Any imperfections such as not detailing and squaring arrow ends and inserts to concentric specifications can certainly affect down range accuracy.
The Firenock Arrow Prep System is the best prep/squaring tool on the market today.
I use replaceable 220 grit diamond grit adhesive backed sand paper.

Good luck norm l had an arrow building buisness back in the 80s and 90s l mainly used the easton xx75 and game getters back then it was the stupid "overdraw craze" that l never did understand... but ohh well take the money
It was fun actually found re-fletching to be profitable also.
As time progressed all the imported carbons took over and it became more of a headache everybody always wanted what the new arrow of the month was.
It got kinda crazy sometimes in the fall with the last minute people .
It was fun but now it's just as easy to work a extra hour or so at my regular job
I still can still smell the stink the bohning crest dip or fletch tite ... on a bad night combined with a few beers you would be humming a tune like 🚀. Rocket man or a 60s anti government song.

I have used Norm’s arrows for years. His attention to detail and the uniformity from arrow to arrow are just as good as the best custom arrow makers. Order with confidence!

Being loosely involved with Norm's growth in the industry I can attest to the quality and have personally shot his arrows with speeds approaching 500 fps and fixed heads with excellent results. The attention to detail, top of the line tools and constantly searching for the best available components will ultimately lead to these being one of the best sources for arrows. Canadian shipping too!

Hey Norm!!
Glad to see you spending your retirement time doing something you enjoy!! Reminds me of the old cliche'..."if you love your job, you'll never work a day in your life"!!

Keep up the GREAT work!!
