Fouling shot for Matrix?

The Excalibur Explorer case is exactly what you need for a float plane trip.
Took Janesy's advice and picked up an Explore case. Very nice, although I wish it was 1-2" longer/taller (stock & rail stretch the case). Took apart my Matrix 380, put in case, drove to camp where I do all my sighting-in. Put it back together, everything seemed to be snug & full return to zero.

Then I took my first shot. Almost 4" high (but perfectly centered).
Checked everything for tightness. Yep. all good.
Then my next 3 shots were in the bull & touching.

Who would have imagined you need a fouling shot after reassembling Matrix 380.
Anybody else have similar experience?

Tried attaching photo but got message:

One suggestion I could add is to add timing or witness marks to the bottom of your riser and riser to bolt .

Mark your bolt to riser with a scratch or marker so that bolt torque
Is repeatable every time.

Your goal is to torque to the same indexing point everytime which should help repeatability.

I would say that is out of the ordinary for sure. My experience is that you can completely disassemble your bow and reassemble it without losing your zero. Obviously, string changes and scope adjustments not included.

I'm wondering if this couldn't be scope related with the first shot shaking it back to normal. Springs can be springs.

We can make a ton of assumptions and I’m sure they all have a chance of being the issue, but the best part of this post is that you made sure it was right before hunting with her!
Good luck!

I have zero such issues with my first shot upon re-assembly. And I don't do anything special other than trying to be consistent in the amount of torque I tighten riser bolt with, though I've yet to ever notice a difference in POI.
