2021 Buck aka "Ol Man"

Post by tomcat »

Shot a 6.5-7 year old on my hit list since 2016 which we've called "Sabre" for the out of proportion tine. We haven't had picks of him since 2019 when a guy began renting the adjacent farmhouse and baiting it with truckloads of corn he gets for free. He bragged about a deer he called the "Ol Man" he was getting pics of but never shared pics with me. He has been a PITA since moving in and complaining about everyone who comes and goes on our property. I've had permission to hunt the farm he lives on since 2006 and this year he began complaining about where I park(in the middle of corn field at an oil pump)as his reason for not getting a deer for last 2 years (although he rides a UTV to his blind and to dump corn daily) . On Weds as I pulled in to park, he called and began telling me how he hasn't seen deer since August because of me and my parking(I've only hunted twice there)...I told him "Well then it shouldn't matter WTH the I park then", got out slammed my door grabbed my "experimental" 405++ Mega Vixen Hybrid(shooting 395fps w 445 gr arrow) and realized I had forgot to put sling back on it..Then when I got to the stand I discovered my bow rope was missing and I forgot to bring my spare I usually keep in my hip pocket. Anyways, I finally made it in my stand but figured I wouldn't see anything. 1/2 hour later I heard a large buck pass through corn about 10 rows in but couldn't see his head and knew a shot wasn't an option anyways..Thought to myself can it get any worse? Then immediately after that thought, I heard a Combine fire up behind the barn...about 10 mins after that I heard a single corn stalk move and seen nothing but tines trotting past 2 of my 3 shooting lanes out at 40 yds. I swung the Excal like a shotgun, lead him by about a foot using my 30 yd mark in my XB-30 and squeezed. Lumenok disappeared. I waited 15 mins, climbed down and went straight back to my car (opposite way of buck)to go get my truck and help. came back about an hour later and found him 75 yards away from where I shot him. Used a Rage Hypodermic this year after doing a lot of testing out of my other 405/380 and this bow(using a spare Offspring rail with Matrix frontend)with mechanicals. I've now used the Rage's with the Red shock collars on the big bladed Extremes out of a slower ExoMag(300fps) on a doe, another out of an Offspring(320fps) and this "Hybrid" @395fps. All 3 deer had 2.5"-3" entry and 2.5"-3" exit. The first doe and the buck were quartering away on shots and encountered sides of the shoulder bones. Those two BH's had a slightly bent blade although ferrule's were still perfectly true after new blades installed. My first year with Rage's and so far so good..

Last year that neighbor bragged and showed pics of the "Ol Man"to my Brother in Law (who helped me drag the buck out) and told me that this the one he called the " Ol Man"..
I sent him a text of this pic and asked if this was the "Ol Man"?... He hasn't replied yet..lol
