Decent buck

Post by Boo »

I got to my stand at 2:45pm yesterday and waited. The wind was perfectly in my favor and temp wise it was minus 5c and warming slightly. By 4:30 a good buck came in and stared in my direction for a good 10 minutes at 114 yards. He walked off a bit and stopped and stared again, tail twitching. Eventually he went back into the woods. By 4:50 5 does came into the beans and were browsing for a few minutes, then 2 more showed up and all headed for my bait at 40 yards. After feeding for a few minutes. I had my scope on one, very tempted to whack her but hummed and hawed until they all scattered. I looked in the opposite direction and there was that buck coming. He stopped and looked around and proceeded to the corn. As soon as he presented a good shot, I took it. On the shot, he leaned as if to bolt but by then it was too late. The Swat Crossbow Magnum connected but it hit high on its side. He had loaded up his legs and leaned over so hard that the arrow entered his rib cage and hit his spine. The buck dropped and never got up. I packed up my gear and came down and he was dead. I was hoping for another buck but I'll take a buck like this any day.
The second picture is one that has never showed up during legal. Hopefully he has spread his genetics. The buck I killed had a patch of hair scraped off and a recent wound on his lower leg. Fighting no doubt!

Damn Fine Buck there Don!

Congrats!

And if the one in the trail cam picture has been doing his job recently, you are truly blessed with uber fine genetics in your hunting area!

Cheers,
Matt
