Game Bags

I live a long way from the nearest Cabelas, and on the weekend will be visiting one.

I’ve been considering buying some game bags. I really haven’t had much need for any until last fall. Even then, we were lucky and could make do without any commercially made version.

It’s about time to get some good bags, and have them on hand, just in case I really need them.

So, what’s the best kind? The reviews on the Cabelas site don’t generate a whole lot of confidence for ANY brand. I imagine that a good product line would sell models for different sized game. I want something for elk to moose sized game.

Product reviews on a retailer’s website need a grain or two of salt, unfortunately. It’s hard to know who’s talking - - some bonehead who abused the product, or another bonehead who hasn’t actually used it yet but is knocked off his feet by the packaging.

A site like this one would provide honest opinions.

I would save yourself the long drive and purchase Caribou Gear game bags online. I have been using them for a very long time and think they are some of the best game bags you can buy.

I canoed out a small moose two years ago using Cabela's game bags and grabage bags. The garbage bags may or may not be necessary for you, in my case I'm hunting is a massive series of Beaver Meadows and I didn't want the meat anywhere near that water.

I don't know what the reviews state, but they worked well for me. Although I could see them being a little thin when stretched over bigger quarters as this moose was quite small

Here's what I found, bought at estate sale box of 10.

Huge , but breathable , great for moose, elk hunts.

Actually thking resew and get 4 smaller quarter

Heres me inside , I'm 6ft 2 and 280

Guy had them handmade for Alaska trip. From local seamstress.

Guys will use oversize pillow cases, laundry bags etc. As most will just toss after they get bloody.

Even old bed sheets , resewn will work.

Did they appear custom made, or was there some brand shown? A whole deer could fit inside …..may (be) the intention?

They were a custom order, so I was told.
I even used them to transport my bike while traveling.
Rewashed, ready to hunt.

I always carry gamebsgs , even when in the field.

Not these big bags but knowing


Proper meat care, makes for great tablefare.
