OT: July 13 - The Biggest Supermoon of the Year

Everything to Know About July's Buck Moon, the Biggest Supermoon of the Year

July is giving us another reason to point our eyes to the sky.

While fireworks have come and gone, it's time to look up once again as this month's full moon is upon us — and it's going to be super!

Known as the Buck Moon, July's full moon is set to rise on Wednesday, July 13. The celestial spectacle is going to be quite the event because the natural satellite is expected to reach its nearest point to Earth.

Due to its close proximity to our planet, the big bright orb has been labeled a supermoon and will orbit closest to Earth compared to any other full moon this year, according to the Farmer's Almanac. The best part? No binoculars or telescopes are needed to view this fantastic phenomenon!

Like many other full moons, July's Buck Moon derives from Native Americans who first published its name in the Maine Farmer's Almanac in the 1930s.

"According to this almanac, as the full moon in July – the Algonquin tribes in what is now the northeastern United States called this full moon the Buck Moon," per NASA. "Early summer is normally when the new antlers of buck deer push out of their foreheads in coatings of velvety fur. They also called this the Thunder Moon because of early summer's frequent thunderstorms."

Thank you., my wife Patti asked me to pass that along as she is very interested in such events.

She plans to be up early viewing the sky from or vantage in Ontario's cottage County this week.

Google the Torrance Barrens if you want to see the night sky. Maybe 25 minutes from you by car.

Don't want to risk getting pulled over by the PoPo late at night in cottage condition.

Well its technically only about 5 km through the bush. But I would recommend that in cottage condition either🤣

It was indeed a full moon! What A big bright, spectacular sight!
I don't know about antlers sprouting, but I sure wish we'd get the thunderstorms!!

I woke up at 2 AM and looked out at the moon and it was definitely full and bright. But it looked almost exactly like it did the night before and I couldn't say it looked any larger at all.

This says it won't look larger just brighter. ?? And basically the same from the day before through the day after

If we could only predict Animal behavior.
One of the best and only accurate advice l ever gathered is when the moon is out during the morning or evening the fishing is usually good.
Nooow deer hunting or regular hunting l find it 🤔 ok also but it's not the same as fishing.
The really bester advice is during the rut when a cold front comes you had better be in your stand!!!
Other than that it's all good reading from some whitetail "prophecy "experts how to book.
I hope a its not my werewolf keith my luck it's monkey pox or something.
I woke up at 3am and had a beer and slept like a baby till 630... I was gonna have a warm milk n cookies but sometimes you gotta follow your instincts.

Next Super Moon is on Aug. 11th, the 'Sturgeon Moon'

Post by Czy_Horse »

I was up 'North' on a 14,000 acre lake boat camping the week of July's Super Moon.

The weather and fishing were awesome. Besides eating our fill, my son and I caught & released way over 100 walleye.
Bait of the week, 1/4oz Chartreuse jig & leech. We went thru 6doz leeches.
My son says he beat my 4 walleye by getting 5 walleye with 1 leech.

Buddy and I are heading back up on Friday for the next Super Moon on Aug. 11th, the 'Sturgeon Moon'. It's not going to be as close as the one in July but still brighter than normal. Try and catch it just as the moon is rising, that's when it looks the biggest.
