Shoulder surgery

Post by Robinsons Rebel »

I finally had to break down make an appointment to see an orthopedic shoulder specialist. Actually, my wife made me. My first orthopedic doctor said my shoulders are shot and believes I have "frozen shoulders." Anybody out there that procedure and how did it turn out? Thank you again.

I don't know if this is what you are going to have done. I had my right shoulder replaced in August of 2009.

At the time, I could not reach my right rear back pocket with my right hand. I had to use my left hand and reach across to get to my right rear pocket.
I could not raise my arm above my head at all.

The operation turned out great. I got back all my motion. Even the doctor didn't think I would get back that much motion. I had four months of therapy, two days a week.

The two things that the doctor told me not to do were no heavy lifting above my head and no throwing a baseball hard overhand.

I hope this helps.

After I tore my rotator cuff and labrum I was hit with bursitis and frozen shoulder working in tandem to trouble me 1.5 years.

The best rehab advice I can give you is to do your own rehab using light exercise bands , the bands with a "D" handle ends, about $20.

There are hundreds of angle variations using these bands. If it hurts, stop and move onto another movement.

Rest, rinse and repeat as much as you can.

There are lots of shoulder rehab videos using bands at You Tube University.

It took me 6 months to rehab my shoulder and I'm pleased to report my shoulder is 100% again.

The more effort you put into rehab the better the outcome.

If you have surgery use plenty of Collagen supplements in the first month. Type I, II, 3 and 4.

Gentlemen... I have determined that it sometimes sucks getting older!!

I've been putting off surgery for several years now. I need shoulder surgery on my right shoulder, and I need to have a tear in my stomack muscle repaired.
My muscle tear is like LBJ's, in the belly button area, actually about 3 inches above mine. I don't dare pick up anything too heavy cause it makes mine stand out like a baseball!! Not a pretty picture. :eusa-hand:

The "Boss" has been on me for abut a year now to go get it fixed. I told her I would after the 1st of the year when hunting season is over.
Now... ain't that something to look forward to? :eusa-naughty:

And Norman, I'm glad to your shoulder has healed up nicely!!

Yeah AJ, I'm in the same boat with you. Told my wife that if I have to have surgery, it would have to be after hunting season. She tried to trick me by saying that she didn't want me to wait too long because it might get so worse that I wouldn't be able to hunt ever again. Told that at least then I was able to get one more season in. Rare moment when I won the discussion!

I was approved for shoulder replacement over 10 years ago, but I haven't done it. Hip and knee replacement usually go pretty well, but the shoulder is a more complicated joint and success is a little dicier (a surgeon tried hard to convince me to do it, but I resisted). Both of my shoulders are bad, but mostly for movement below shoulder height. Staying in the best shape I can is how I chose to deal with my shoulders.

I go to a gym regularly and included in my routine is 12 reps at 40 lbs. on a shoulder press machine (I used to do them with 120 lbs., but I'm 73 now with shoulder issues). I can easily rope cock my 350 SE, pick up and carry my grandkids and generally do most of the things I need (and want) to do. Surgery is NOT in my plans as things stand.
