I have always used .003 shafts, I make a quality indexed arrow that shoots very accurately. So I see no difference in my hunting or target shooting, but……
I believe a competitive shooter or long distance shooter will see a difference.

It takes somewhere in the order of 6 thou run out for a world class shooter to see a difference at long distances. The 2 most important factors in arrow superiority is spine matching and spine indexing. When you buy BEA shafts, they come spine and weight matched and you have to spine index them on something like a Ram Arrow Spine tool or you can shoot different vanes as the cock vane.
Three thou is insignificant at 30 yards.

I would be careful using cheap arrows, especially carbon arrows.

Good idea, for starters. Read some stuff here, and make your setup better as you go along. Good luck!!
