Going out hunting this afternoon.

Post by Riflemanz »

My brother and I are going out hunting this afternoon and the temperature is going to be in the 50’s unreal this late in December with no snow on the ground. At least our feet won’t get cold! He still has a buck tag and I have 2 doe tags left. Deer could be napping in this heat!

Just got back from a trip up near Quannah, Texas. Highs in the 50's. weather was a little wet.
Lots of Turkeys moving a few hogs and some deer. All in all, a good trip.

Good luck! I'm pretty much Done deer hunting this season and am glad I filled my tags but miss my tree stand time... :)
A touch of frost has heightened your awareness and your heart steadily beats in anticipation. Your senses are suddenly alert to the movement on the forest floor and you realize that the moment of truth is at hand.

X 2.

I pulled my cameras and recovered four stands the first Saturday in December. I'm living vicariously through those that have good late season opportunities. My hunting area becomes a barren wasteland once all the leaves are down.

I'm always impressed by those that manage to harvest after the leaves are gone.

My brother saw 4 doe and 1 buck chasing 2 of them. He had 2 doe walk up to his stand at 10 yds and he shot her with a 3 blade 2” cut hammerhead. I saw turkeys and no deer.

Congratulations to your brother!
It's been warm here too! Very few deer showing up during legal hours. It looks like the last day of this month will be below freezing. Even the northern waterfowl haven't come down. This weather stinks! Fortunately a doe went down during muzzleloader season and we have meat!

It's been warm here too. My freezer is pretty full from the 2 deer I killed during rifle season, but I still have 3 archery tags (one any deer and two antlerless) tags left. I have a buddy who has gotten skunked so far this year and I have a son who loves venison and has freezer space (I've already given him a bunch). Our season lasts until Jan. 15 so I will probably go back out. The long range weather forecast is changing and it looks like January will be much colder. I hope won't be too windy. I can handle the cold if it the wind isn't too strong.

I said earlier that we had been to Quannah and had to make a hasty return. My bud did get to punch one tag. Here's his buck from earlier.
