Three days left in the South Carolina squirrel season... so I thought to myself, what any serious squirrel hunter would think, heck I'll grab my Vixen and hit the pines... 8)

That's a unique looking squirrel. There's a area in Maryland about 30 miles north of me that has an abnormal number of entirely black fox squirrels. All we ever see around here are the typical gray and fox squirrel colors.

Yes sir it is. I shot him with a 100 grain Muzzy small game head.

We have fox squirrels with a gray body and black face, red body with a white face, and then the one you see here, black body with a white face. Fox squirrels are a little rare… we mostly just have gray squirrels. I have had a pretty good crop of foxes around my deer stand for years though.

I've never seen a squirrel like that. It's really different from every other squirrel I have seen. Fox squirrels seem to be losing ground to grey squirrels around here. I never see a fox squirrel in the metropolitan area where I live and I probably see 4 grey squirrels for every fox squirrel at my farm in NE Missouri.

I'm not sure that's true everywhere. I used to spend a lot of time in Tulsa and every squirrel I saw there was a fox squirrel.

It was that way around here in my area for a while but,
the grays migrated out, and now it,s mostly fox squirrels
but there are still a few grays around, in Marion Mo.
they have a white squirrel population that they
are very well known for,,whooda thunk, :eusa-think:

Same way here. I see a lot of Gray "Cat" Squirrels. Not so many Foxes. Cats seem to multiple like proverbial rats to me, they are everywhere and into everything!! I catch them suckers snooping around my garden, and they get whacked!
