Be AFRAID be very AFRAID!!

Post by Tigerpaw »

Just a quick note to let you all in on a ebay/square trade scam that got me this week. I bought a ATV off ebay for what I thought was a good price. (to good to be true.) the seller stated that they wanted to use square trade to ensure both of our safety.Thinking that this was a good plan I delt with square trade through e-mails ect. The moneys were sent to the seller (Kathy Hale) through western union but I only faxed the pickup # to square trade. They were not to send the # to Kathy Hale until I received the ATV. As it turns out this person has setup web pages that are the same as ebay and square trade with workable links and all but it is all fake!! What I had done is fax the pickup # right to this fake Kathy Hale. I was in contact with ebay and square trade this morning and they said sorry but it happens alot. all they could do was to post the scam on their web site. I geuss that these guys must just get away with this sort of thing. It looks like I have learned a hard lesson and now I can start to save up for a fourwheeler agian Beware of the scams they are getting good!!

Tigerpaw can't western union stop payment on the wire? The last time I did anything on e-bay was thru a escrow deal by ebay.

Hope you can charge someone or they can track down the people..

Well *hit happens and we learn sometimes the hard way :!: They must have had fake ID also or they could not have picked up the money. Last wire I got while camping a few years ago I had to show my drivers lic. and another form of ID such as a credit card.

Don't mean they all ask for two means of I.D. Maybe with a little luck they will catch them sooner or later..hopefully sooner :!:

How much did I lose? Lets just say less then a new sportman 700 but more then a few new ecomaxes Another point that square trade said to watch for is that ebay is not affiliated with square trade so if you are ever to receive a e-mail with both names on it dump it. I am going hunting the end of this month so other then the fact that I will now be hauling my buck out instead of driving it out it should cheer me up.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck, but glad to get the tip.
eBay and PayPal are very useful, but the buzzards sure gather to pick any meat left on the bones. I just got a spoof email this morning wanting me to go to the scam artist's website and update my credit card info. I do forward all these fake emails to [email protected] , but I wonder just haw many crooks are really brought to justice?
