Tactacam 6.0 micro sd card

Post by Robinsons Rebel »

Got a Tactacam 6.0 awhile back and still haven't bought a micro sd card for it yet. Anybody has any recommendations on what works best? Starting to get the itch to try it out!

I have a SanDisk Gold 128 in mine. At the time it was really expensive.
But it you are even considering filming in 4K, spend as much as you can afford on the biggest and best card you can get. I stopped filming in 4 k and went back to 2.7 or 1080. because it takes much less space, and you don't need some super high Fidel processor to manage the imagery.

For that matter, and I may be wrong, but most hosting platforms, a) won't host 4K, and b) downgrade it without telling you. So youtube for instance, if you upload in HD, the end viewer has to actually select the resolution that you uploaded it in.

I am by no means a techie, but having a hot SD card makes the 6.0 easier to manage.

My tactacams have been finicky with cards before. Buy a name brand that has the class 10 logo and you'll be good to go.

^^^-- That

It's hard to go wrong with Sandisk, but there are others that will work. The key is to get one with enough bandwidth (Class 10) to record 4K.

I've found mine to be finicky if I'm not using a Sandisk card. And by finicky, it records perfect right up until you fire the shot then it turns off. Argh! It's hard enough to remember to turn it on sometimes, then to have it miss the money shot. I reverted to the kiss method late last season and my last two bucks had no footage because I left the Tactacams at home.

It's not so much about the recording part. Any class 10 will record 4k. It's more about after the fact and how efficiently the card responds later when you are trying to manipulate the data. But ya, the biggest and fasted SanDisk you can afford.

That's why I suggested 2.7 or 1080. There is a pretty high possibility that your software, unless you have nice paid for editing software on a gaming PC, (which I have for work) will not be able to process it and will render it to 2.7K anyway. Furthermore, you'll likely find that transfering 4 K to most viewing platforms is not supported either. In Fact, most 4k capable tvs don't display 4 k once in their lifetime because of the lack of support for such huge file.
If course your mileage may vary, but if your eye can't tell the difference, why bother.

Also, With the 6.0, low light performance is not great in FHD anyway. It's actually better and less pixled if you do film in HD

Also, If you record your shot in UHD(4k) quite often the wifi signal between the tacticam and your phone, won't support the download anyway, so you will have a hard time trying to watch the shot on your phone in the treestand anyway.

The tacticam booth at ATA 2023 was very helpful in decerning what it can and can't do. Unfortunately as I found out, much of the hype around UHD is for selling cameras to guys like me.
