Iowa just banned trail cameras on public hunting lands. It’s still ok on private lands.

I hunted Iowa for 15 years and still don't understand some of their outdated and archaic traditions (although I'm from Michigan with no shortage of ridiculosity). This is a great first step forward for the individual hunters but wouldn't have affected my hunting posse at all. We conducted deer drives and pushed deer through the woods and didn't matter what camera showed. Party hunting is a big deal in Iowa and, unsure how many still do it that way but, is *THE* most effective way to harvest deer if you can pull together a group of 10+ hunters. So cameras in Iowa, meh. But only during the first season. And if you bucket sit second season, whatever you saw during first season won't be there anymore anyhow.

I don't see this as a big loss. Most every state I hunt doesn't allow feeding or baiting on public land either. On some public lands, if you leave any personal equipment overnight there is a good chance it won't be there come daylight. You can get some of that on private lands too, but not as bad as on public. I guess some people think that if it's on public property, it's public property.
