CPSC, Hunter's View Announce Recall of Safety Harnesses Sold with Tree
Stands

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in
cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary
recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using
recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Safety Harnesses Sold with Tree Stands

Units: About 500,000

Manufacturer: Hunter's View, of Peoria, Ill.

Hazard: The harnesses could fail during use, resulting in consumers
falling from tree stands and suffering serious injuries or death.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported

Description: These 2004 model year Fall Arrest Systems (harnesses) have
model number 3333 and Model Year 2004 written on a white label attached
to the harness or the tree strap. They were included with every Hunters
View and every Comfort Zone brand tree stand sold under various names
and model numbers (to see the names and model numbers, please go to the
web address at the end of this recall).

Sold by: Hunting and sporting good stores nationwide beginning in
January 2004 for between $100 and $300.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should stop using these harnesses immediately and
contact Hunters View to receive a free replacement harness.

I just checked mine and that's the one i have, thanks for the heads up. I don't really like heights but felt a little safer with the harness. Maybe it's time to double up.

There's garbage harnesses out there. Put yours on and hang from your garage rafters for a few minutes, you'll quickly find out if the one you have is worth using. Some can be extremly painful. I threw out two already. I now only use a professional rescue harness from work.

I agree, professional harnesses are infinitely more comfortable and more practical as well. If you go to a local outdoors store that has rock climbing equipment, (Mountain Equipment Co-op is great in Canada)youll find Petzl brand harnesses. Some do not even require the straps that run over your shoulders since they use the hips to hold on, and believe me theyre safe to use. They are also very comfortable. Just a little suggestion for anyone looking for an alternative.
