Camo Patterns/Fabric

Post by Herbinator »

My wonderful wife (I) :) just purchased an insanely expensive sewing machine on the weekend. The thing has EVERY bell and whistle you can think of. She kind of surprised me while I was out fishing... Anyway, the deal is, she has to make me some camo clothing. Cargo pants and a sweatshirt to start. Before I start phoning around for fabric and patterns, I thought I'd ask you guys for any advice. Any good patterns? Best type of fabric etc....

Thanks in advance!

Shakky's wife here, he asked me to reply as I make his and his familys hunting clothing.

I use a butterick pattern 6780 for cargo pants and a lined vest, I even put a recoil pad in the sholder of the vest for when they went Turkey hunting.
I also made them a long sleeve jersey shirt butterick pattern 5286.

We lucked out and found our fabric on E-bay I used Real Tree advantage in a cotton twill for the vest and pants and a jersey (T-shirt fabric) for the shirts. The only thing I have found in Canada is camo fleece ( generic not real Tree) at walmart ( it's quite cheap I used it to line the vests) I have found several websites for companies in the states that carry the real tree fabric if you are interested we can pm you the info.

One company to check out is Green Pepper Patterns they have patterns for all outdoor clothing and accessories.

Thanks sooo much Shakky's wife! You'll have to excuse my ignorance, where do I find these "butterick" patterns?
I will pass this on to my wife.

Thanks again!

Fabricland has them, they have five stores in Calgary.

E-bay has the best deals on fabric if your not in a hurry. Good luck. :)

Don't forget to check out the fleece material, my wife is a seamstress also and made my camo with larger than normal pockets that are very handy.
Just a shirt/jacket is what she made. Found the camo fleece at Walmart.
Very light weight and warm too.

Yes she's great not only does she make all my hunting clothes but she does the same for my uncle and cousin. It saves everyone a lot of money and every item is tailor made.
The only thing I would stress is if you can get your hands on the cotton twill buy as much as you can. This fabric is perfect for hunting cloths but it is difficult to come by.
