local buck pics

Post by terry-1 »

I put my first sony homebrew trail cam out at my farm this weekend for a test to make sure it did work after all it is the first one I have ever built. I left it out for 3 days and checked it this afternoon figureing it was mostlikey to soon to have any pics after only 3 days out and was suprised to find I had 26 pics mostly of 4 different small bucks and a few does. I threw out about 10lbs of corn in front of the cam on a old salt lick I made last year I think these bucks have been using this lick alot this spring and were mostliky surpised to see a cam here now. There is one looks like 2-3 year old buck in the far back of one pic I don't know how well he will stand out since I resized the photos for posting from the 2.1 pixel the camera took. The rest look to be 1.5 year olds they all still have alot of antler to grow as it's pretty early to tell their true size until maybe late July. It looks like the home-brew camera is working great!!!! Thanks for posting the pics, I always enjoy seeing deer coming in to feed stations (it gives me hope for the upcoming season  )
I'm in the annual process of moving stands to cover my setup. I added a ground blind, but will have a couple of tree stands, too. I put a new salt block at my old salt lick last week. I'm feeding 2# of corn twice a day right now, but getting a lot of turkey, squirrel, coon, and songbird traffic. The deer have been hitting the food plot some, and we will plant some soybeans in July. They should be ready by opening day, and remain green until it freezes by planting so late.
