22?? or23??

Post by OK. DEER HUNTER » Tue Sep 16, 2003 10:58 pm

I see mostly the 22 diam with most arrow combos on the forum. I rounded up over 2 dozen 2314's that I was shooting with my Oneida a few years back. Will this arrow work well if I cut them and replace the inserts? Just wondering if that larger diam works ok off the rail of a x-bow? Also maybe some of you number whizes can give me a comparison 22 diam arrow shaft size or the 20in grain weight with aluminum inserts and four inch feathers. I am guessin a 2314 falls between a 2216 and a 2213.... approx what grains and fps can I get with these and 100grain tips out of my Exocet?

I'm not certain about the 23/64 diameter being OK, but I think I've seen it mentioned before that it was acceptable. I'd check with Excalibur's tech people before shooting them.
As for weight you should be around 400 grains with that setup. I'd guess velocity at close to 300 fps.

I've shot mostly 2117 from my xbows since '92, then to 2213-2219s when they were advised, but I have used 23s cut down from my compounds with no ill effect in my Emag when I had one, just added a little more weight to the total. :D 8)

The real issue here is will it fit between the claws of your individual catch? Some do, but it's also possible it'll interfere with the arrows flight because the diameter is too big so check first.

Hi there,

I experimented with 2312's out of my standard Exocet and had no problem at all.

My previous arrows were 2117 w/100gr. tip, 5 inch vanes and carbon inserts at both ends: Total weight: 430gr. 268ft/sec.

My 2312's w/100gr. tip, 5 inch vanes and carbon inserts at both ends:
Total weight: 370gr. 284 ft/sec.

Without changing my set-up:

2117's were zeroed at 25yds and dropped about 6" at 40 yds using same hold.

2312's were 4" high at 25yds and bang on at 40yds. using same hold.

I account for the trajectory difference to be due to the larger diameter shaft sitting higher in the arrow channel rather than the gained velocity.

I also lost a little ft/lbs. going with the lighter shaft.
This was just an experiment and i will continue using my 2117's for hunting.
