Finally got my 2009 Turkey. This morning got a 17.14 lb Tom with a 9" beard, with 3/4" spurs. What a morning, windy as hell no gobbles came from the left threw the woods. Heard him crashing threw the bushes and turned, there he was staring at me, so i put i the gun and let him have it.

I got him ! made my way down to Va at 2AM arrived at 4:30/ 1st light this bird started off gobbling and would not stop. It's now 8 AM and he is still going at it walking back and forth on the other side of the small ridge trying to get me to come to him. Finally he came in see's the Tom decoy , struts and then walks off. I figered time to make my move if I want him. I make a mad dash 250 yards down the trail over the ridge and plop down 30 yards from the lake edge and 30 yards from the rise of the small ridge. I give out a few yelps and sit there 15 minutes later here he come's. Not a care in the world I give him one soft call , he stops looks up and down he went at about 35yards.
Bird Bird #7 Man I love this sport !
9.5" beard
1 1/2" & 1 3/8" spurs
weight about 25 pounds.
This is the bird Jake and I were after when the boss Tom cut him off and Jake shot the Big one. 3 years later it was His turn.
Ford Model "T"

That's a REALLY nice bird! Congrats man!!! Now those are what you call some hooks!

The beards are nice, but I'm a sucker for those long spurs. It's rare to find a bird with spurs that long. You've got a heck of a trophy there mdcrossbow!

Moved to this thread....Opening Day

Was fotunate to take my first turkey this morning at 8:00.

22 1/4 pounds, 5" beard 3/4" spurs

Took it with my Phoenix at 8 yards. The Turkey Tom-A-Hawk did its job. A 3 yard recovery.

The callling game went back and forth for 30 minutes wihen he gobbled right behind my blind (back up). I could hear him spitting and he finally went in front of the shooting window in full strut. His focus was on my 2 hen, 1 jake decoy setup. He never new what hit him.

Went back to the van and called schnarrfuss and he had taken a jake about 30 minutes earlier. I'll let him tell his story.

A great season openner with my Exalibur.....

Big58 , Thanks, that is the 2nd bird we have taken like that on this property in 3 years. I know there are a few more. We hear a dozen birds around the lake each year and only take one each which is 3 total so to let the birds grow.
