Why is it these tasteless spam posts just can't be deleted by a moderator?

The two moderators are in Atlanta at the ATA Trade Show and are getting ready to come home.

They've been rather busy..

They need a back-up mod or two who are to delete porn and spam only.

Don't open the threads is not an acceptable answer to this issue - the thing I want to know is how to explain to your 3 kids (6, 9, 11) and your wife why one of your "Favorites/Bookmarks" goes straight to a porn site? This should be addressed promptly! Promote some extra moderators. The fact this site doesn't have it is the REASON it is getting attacked. They know the posts won't be deleted. Bumping old threads up to push them to the second page is not an acceptable solution either.

What? Have you never searched the internet for "jumper cables" or anything else totally innocent and had your search engine spit out some related sites and some other totally unrelated porn sites? I agree that these threads should be deleted by the moderator, but if I had a huge problem with my kids reading or seeing something like this on the internet, then I would not allow them to use the computer unsupervised. This forum is the property of excalibur and as such it is their decision to look after it as they see fit. Give your wife some credit. If you are not opening the links to the sites (as seen in your history folder) then I think you're okay.

Holy crap! Are there ever alot of them now! There used to be the odd one, but man, this is nuts!

Bill T has to appoint a Mod or two who frequent the forums on a daily basis.

My votes for Woody!

I'm far from being a Computer Tec but I'm sure these freaks can be traced through their IP # and blocked from posting that crap on sites where it doesn't belong...

They can, but IP addresses are easy to change. Mine changes at home every time we have a power failure. Resetting a router will do it in alot of cases as well.

And since Bill T is the owner of this website and the owner of a company that has the BEST xbow on the market it is a shame he might lose some sells due to not appointing some additional moderators to this forum to clean up the CRAP. What kind of impression do you think the MANY new crossbow hunters are goingt to get with Excalibur when they are searching for info about crossbows and get pointed to this forum for the useful info on it and run into all this CRAP. They'll be gone to Tenpoint quicker than you can hit your back button on your web browser. This site has too much very useful info to get drug down to the level it is getting to.

And as far as having children link to sites that come up with google and other search engines I'm not worried about that. But I am worried about viewing a page where my kids might think I am visiting a site full of XXX stuff.

TNhunterKMC I hear what you are saying. But I believe that all of this was brought on accidently by some members linking a post in a thread to a XXX site.

As for new comers visiting this site and finding those posts, I believe that they might be or get upset, but no more upset then the rest of us. I also believe that they will see through our comments that those posts are not acceptable for this forum and then will wait until the problem can get fixed.

About you not wanting your kids to see you on one of those sites, I can understand that too. They might get the idea that they are ok if they see you there on those sites, but if you do not CLICK onto their links, you should not get to those sites.

Lets try and be patient and let Excalibur correct this problem.

Thanks.
Tom
