Varizone scope problem.

Post by Major Tom »

Hi guys, I got my exomax and right stuff package in today. so, I get out there to sight it in and my varizone scope is acting pretty funky, it seems the clicks on the l/r adjustment are broke.

point of impact doesnt change no matter how you change the clicks , also the magnification will not manually turn. it seems to be stuck.
It began shooting off to the right, and as I began to turn the adjusment left I ran out of clicks before I turned a full 180 degrees.... bummer.

Is this a common problem with these scopes or am I just a lucky guy?

iyho is the path of least resistance to return this scope to the vendor or just try to send it to excalibur directly?

thanks

The varizone is a good reliable scope. Contact the place you purchased your scope from and let them know of your problem. You will not have a problem getting it repaired. Excalibur has a great customer service.

Good luck
Tom

Scope problems

Post by awshucks »

Had a guy w/ similar problem w/ scoped rifle. I found he had put one ring w/ big knurled nut facing left, the other facing right. Doesn't work. Hope that is not your problem, but wanted to tell ya about it.

yeah I am 99.9% sure its the scope internally. although just for the benefit of the doubt, tommorrow Im gonna pop the nikon 4x off my ruger 10/22 and swap it.

ill try to sight in the nikon on the cross bow and the varizone on the 10/22.

That should pretty much tell me if its scope mount or scope related .

one thing I noted as a bit disturbing about my exomax receiver is the scope mount screws on the left side freely spun in by hand.. but on the right side both screws made it about half way in and started getting tough to tighten by hand.

it didnt feel like a cross thread tho, considering the first half of the screw went in so easy I couldnt imagine a crossthread situation occuring. so it seemed more like a taper or just a shallow tap.

theres a possiblilty that this thread issue could have kicked the scope mount off a tad, ive owned a cast receiver sloppy spec springfield m1a in the past and if any of you guys are familiar with those guns, you know you can really go in circles trying to chase down wandering mount problems.
But given that the design of the excal scope mounts dont have any adjustment I dont see it being likely the scope would do anything but point straight when there are 4 bolts in it.

fwiw I went back out and installed the open sights on the exomax and enjoyed the rest of the evening. I really didnt expect this much accuracy out of a crossbow but I must say I am impressed.

to get the magni to turn you have to loosen that ring and then it turns. I had to use a pair or vice grips and a rag to get that ring loose on mine to turn.

as for the click, it sounds like thats broke. I would call excal or email them(addie is on there site). They will more or less probably send you a knew scope

I wouldnt imagine anyone could do this with the varizone sinc eit has arrows in it, but is everyone putting the scope on right? On plain crosshair scopes if you put the scope on wrong(adjustment cap needs to be up top dead center and the other should be on the right dead center). If not, then when you adjust the scope it doesnt do anything but get worse on every shot since everything is backwards. But I cant see anyone doing that with this scope since when you look the arrows should be under the main crosshair
