question about archery Moose/rifle bear

Had a question, tried to contact a few MNR officers, but no responce yet.

If I were hunting moose with a crossbow, would a buddy be allowed to hunt bear and grouse with firearms along side me. Do not know if it is lawful,
thanks for your help.

PARTY HUNTING:
The term "Party Hunting" means two or more persons hunting during an
open season for moose, deer or black bear under all of the following
conditions:
* Each person has a valid licence to hunt moose, deer or black bear.
* The total number of moose, deer or black bear killed by the
party does not exceed the total number of game seals held by the
members of the party licensed to hunt that species.
* The total number of moose, deer or black bear of a specified sex, age or
type killed by the party does not exceed the total number of game seals
validated for that sex, age or type that are held by members of the party.
* All members of the party hunt together in the same Wildlife
Management Unit or portion thereof for which the game seal is valid.
* Each member of the party hunts within five kilometres of the person
who holds the game seal that is valid for the wildlife being hunted.
* Each member of the party must be able to reliably and
immediately communicate with other members of the party.
* All members of the party, including the person who holds the seal that
is valid for the wildlife that the party is hunting, actively participate in
the hunt and hunt co-operatively.
The person who kills the wildlife while hunting in a party shall
immediately notify all other members of the party the wildlife has been
killed and the game seal holder shall immediately affix the game seal to
the wildlife in the manner prescribed on the game seal.

MC I do not know the exact answer to your question, but maybe this will help you.

If you hold a bear licience, then you must wear hunter orange unless your in a tree stand. IF your friend has a moose licience, and is hunting beside you with you hunting archery only season, then he or you can not posses a gun even if it is for other game species. He could be classed as party hunting with you, the same as you could be classed as party hunting bear with him.

Firearms
Big game, including moose, ay only be hunted with a firearm (this includes bows). When hunting mose you may use or carry only a firearm of the type (rifle, shotgun, archery or muzzleloader) premitted for hunting moose at that time in that WMU (see page 22). For example, when hunting moose during an archery only season, you may use or carry only archery equipment. You may not carry a rifle or shotgun for hunting other game species. However, when hunting moose during a rifle/shotgun season you may carry a rifle or shotgun for small game (in addition to your firearm that meets the specifications to hunt moose) because it is the same type of firearm.

The above came from page 31 of the hunting summary for 2006. I hope this helps you. I know the regulations are very difficult to understand and the MNR's replies to our questions are usually very slow and more than a day late.

Yes carry a copy of that reply with you when your hunting as any CO would probually interput the laws differently, espically if he/she is having a bad day and they want to give to someone else (not saying that they would, but they could). I used to get an answer from the NMR and carry it with me to protect myself from a CO form misinterputting a law.

The catch word in the MNR reply is "ONLY." If the guy with the gun is licensed to hunt moose or deer for that mater and there is an open season for those species then he would be breaking the law even if he says I'm only hunting bears.

It's just the MNR's way of keeping it simple.

What does "close together" mean?
