Still researching boots - protectant = scent problem?

Post by John Wade »

The Irish Setter boots I've narrowed down to (http://www.irishsetterboots.com/shoe-zoom.cfm?style=880) have a requirement to treat periodically with Irish Setter Mink Oil. Wouldn't that stink in the field? Am I being paranoid about scent compromising?

Most boots with leather and gortex reccomend Mink Oil because it breaths and you only nead it to protect the leather from drying out. Leather boots without gortex, I found Snow Seal to be better, because you nead the waterproofing, more than just leather oil. Jack.

Yes, you're paronoid. :D Just my opinion. The only scent control you can trust completely is the wind.

If you're worried about scent get rubber boots. I use insulated - camo - knee length boots for hunting in cold weather.
