New/Old Wolverine

Post by Digger »

Just finished putting together my old (new in the box) Wolverine. Drop zone scope , Mag limbs, and level. Ready to hunt. Giving the Vixens a rest.

Neat xbow. What are the specs on this one? I have heard of them but I do not know much about them. Where did you find it if you do not mind me asking?

That's a sweet looking rig, Digger. Looks like you put a set of new mag tips on it.
335 Micro, ya baby, I am in love all over again! (Don 't tell my wife)
175# Exocet, she's old but works like a Swiss watch

Excal made these xbows from 1986 to 1992. My friend RJ found 2 of them at the Bow Shop in Waterloo and offered one to me. They are 150 lbs and 265-270 fps , solid wood stock. I got my first Wolverine in 1992 the first of 5 I've had. Got two left, here's the other.

Looks good!!!!!!!
How does the wood stock compare to the synthetic for noise? I would think the wood should cut down on what you hear with your ear against the stock, and also cut down on vibration & recoil.

Gary Mag tips and FFF string gets up to 285 fps.

Wabi It does cut down the noise level and vibrations & recoil. I think they went to synthetic for the cost factor.

Digger: I'm happy to see you finally came to the realization that you can't hope to kill game without a camo x-bow. So, is the Vixen going out on the for sale list? I have a wife that does not know you can't hope to kill without a camo x-bow. Of course neither does the game we hunt know that secret.

Hey Digger,
I have an old Wolverine - probably made in 86 or 87. I suppose I could put new limbs on it. If so, what limbs would you recommend? What string?FFF? What bolts and what speed would I gain over these 20yr old limbs?

I have always realized all it takes is a good 150 lb xbow to take any game animal in Ontario. Ten of the fourteen xbows I have owned inthe last 16 years were 150lbers (5 Wolverines & 5 Vixens) , I had two Paradoxs(175 lbs) and 2 165 lb Exocets for bear or moose.
I don't have any xbows for sale at this time, I've sold off six this year.

You can always put another set of carved limbs or a set of mag tip limbs with FFF string. Just don't use FFF or Excel string on the carved limbs or they will delaminate in a couple of hundred shots or less.

You can get a set of carved limbs for $50 or mag limb tips for $125.

I just parted with my wolverine a few months ago :(

It was an excellent shooter etc. but wanted to lighten up the load on the trek back to my hunting spot (minimum of a 3/4 mile walk) & went with a 175 lb exocet.

I do find that the exocet is much noisier than the wolverine was but I still do not think the deer will notice

I am starting a xbow collection. New to this but I really enjoy the different xbows like this wolverine.

I am looking for a vixen to get my son for Christmas, or a ten point slider. I just missed on the slider on ebay.

Again Digger nice xbow. :)
