Tye...If you're serious about getting one made, just let me know. I take pride in my workmanship, and you'd be guaranteed a premium and quality product, which would cost you less than a store bought one, and I don't charge tax.

So ComfyBear,
When are you going to make a video on making your own string and serving repair like GaryL did, with the arizona e-z fletcher ?
When are going to start selling these on the Excalibur Trader ?

Great looking String

Well as far as making a video, you guys are out of luck since my Video camera is so old, and I haven't used it in years. I probably forgot how to use it, let alone figure out how to put a clip on my computer, and then on the Internet.

As far as selling the strings on the Excalibur Trader, well when I first decided to make strings, it was to make them for myself, since I felt that I could improve on the commercial ones.

Not that the commercial ones are actually that bad, but what I didn't like about them, was that they are made using 23 strands, and two bundles, one containing 11 and the other 12 strands respectively. I also wasn't too please with how the string was Served.

I suppose when they're made, the emphasis has to be placed on making them up as quickly and as profitable as possible. After all, when making hundreds of strings, every extra minute spent on one adds up to a lot of time, and we all know time is money.

In contrast, for uniformity, I use 24 strands (12 for each bundle) and, being picky, I take my time and make the extra effort, to ensure that I craft the best string possible, and then apply the Serving with care and precision. I know it takes extra time, and maybe I'm too picky, but I feel that all good things take time to make.

Like I said, it wasn't my initial intention to make them and offer them for sale. However, I suppose if there's enough interest, I might decide to make and sell a few.

ComfyBear wrote:I just used a piece of fence board and four 2" finishing nails. Two nails 1/2" apart and the other two nails 26" away from the first two, and also 1/2" part from each other. One complete loop around the nails will give you a strand length of 53".

Since the finished string should be 36", you use the extra 17" to make the two loops, 8.5" for each side. To make your string, make the desired number of loops around the nails, then cut the strands one one side.

You could use just two nails spaced 26.5" apart, and then one complete loop would also give you a strand length of 53".

Hope that helps.
It helps all the way. Thank you!

GAD, if you'd like to make strings of other lengths, here's a link to 3Rivers Archery that shows a Flemish Twist String jig that can be used.

What are you using for the serving string ?
Where did you get the Brownell TS plus string ?
All I see is the Brownell TS-1 plus string.
I think I've got the arrow building down now. It may be time to move on to strings next .

Thanks

I'm using Brownell Crossbow Serving .036" diameter

The TS-1 Plus you see, is a misnomer. Before Brownell changed the material from Spectra to Dyneema, they called it TS-1. Now it's called TS Plus, although most proshops call it TS-1 Plus.

Here's the link to Brownell's string and serving materials
