FOLKS ,
I just came back from a half as876 sport show in Reading PA . Not much of a show , but an outfitter from Manitoba ,that I have been corresponding with was there & I wanted to book a trip.
He does Bear in the Spring , & DEER in the Fall . I've checked his references for the last 2 years or so & all have positive feedback . Not everyone had got a record book deer or bear but may folks passed or took the first animal & then saw larger bucks /bear latter. So goes it.
I gave him a deposit on a trip for bear this spring-NOW the situation.. I shot a 500 pound bear in Newfoundland a couple of years ago w/ a muzzleloader & I doubt that will ever happen again -what I was looking for is a brown phase bear in the 300+ pound class . The outfitter told me they do have SOME color phase about 15% -now I wonder if I did the right thing .
The outfitter runs a first class operation I'm told, & does a lot of work prepairing your hunt . It's in Manitoba -" SANDY RIVER OUTFITTERS "-the owners name is Harry Walker . Seems to be a very honest young man with a good reputation. But do any of you folks know if they have many color phase bears in Mnaitoba ? He said crossbows were allowed for bear in the spring.
Thank you in advance for your help & sorry for the long post -just looking for what you usually get here -GOOD INFORMATION.

Different colour phases are possible in any region, however since the outfitter has stated that in Manitoba the possibility is only 15%, I would think that, in realistic terms, your chances of seeing one are very slim, and of harvesting one even slimmer.

im not a pro bear hunter but like you said, you take your chances.. just like booking a whitetail hunt and hoping for a 160+ class buck and only seeing 120 class ones. But, this is hunting.. you never know whats gonna happen when you least expect it. If you expect to kill one, then its no fun.ComfyBear wrote:Different colour phases are possible in any region, however since the outfitter has stated that in Manitoba the possibility is only 15%, I would think that, in realistic terms, your chances of seeing one are very slim, and of harvesting one even slimmer.
