CONGRATS on a fine bear. This should erase any doubt about the effectiveness of any Excal. If the Vixen can get the job done, the rest of the Excal line-up will only bury the bolt deeper in the ground. Do you plan on getting a mount or rug made.
Thanks to everyone who responded. I would agree the Vixen was more then enough power for the job. Accuracy, distance and a sharp bh is probably the only factor with using a less powerful xbow like the vixen. I did end up getting my bolt back, it was 6-7yds behind where the bear was standing, buried the the muck and stuck into a log. Couldnt get the bh out though, stuck in to deep. I am dropping the bear off @ the taxidermy tomorrow, pretty much decided on a half body mount, would like it done the way I remember him when he came back towards me with the nose up a little.
Your right wabi, im not sure how many lbs, my guess would be around 70-80lbs after cutting away most of the fat and that. Got mainly thick steaks/roasts and burger made. Hoping to maybe get time and throw one in the slow cooker in the morning
Shakky, I actually first owned an exocet. I decided i wanted something with a little less pull and shorter length. No regrets with the vixen.
CONGRATS!!! very nice bear , great story , now i really can't wait for sept 1st im going to try to get my first bear with my Excalibur Exocet 175 i have several bears comming in to my baits should be fun.
Wish you lived nearby. I'd tell you to throw a roast in the slow cooker with plenty of potatos, carrots, and a little celery, then call me over to test it and rate (score) it as a "trophy".
I believe a bear roast is some of the finest eating available!
